I would like to announce that we have added a new feature to the website! If you look to the right you will notice a box that is titled “Track Us”. Well, that is exactly what you can do! I have been testing it the past few days to make sure it was accurate. I will be updating our location every hour or so as we travel throughout the day. The link will open a new window with a map that plots our current location! Here is an example of what you will see. I hope everyone will enjoy following.
Today was technically suppose to be a rest day today, but the college town of Berea was only 47 miles away so we decided to ride into town and spend the afternoon enjoying normal life. I even put on my fancy shirt!
The route today was hopefully the last day of major climbs in the mountains until we get to Colorado. There was a storm last night so the roads were still a bit wet when we started. Only a few miles into our ride we came to a bridge that they were replacing. Several cyclists had told us about this and mentioned they were able to walk through the creek below. However because of the rain the water was up and was not passable. So we did some cycle cross trap-easing across the rebar.
We enjoyed a great lunch today with my parents in McKee at Opals Restaurant. The rest of the day was up and down until we had a 2 mile stretch of 6% grade downhill. Super fun.
We rolled into Berea around 3pm and grabbed a shower. Walked around the town, grabbed some coffee and ice cream and just relaxed. We are staying at the historical Boone Tavern Hotel. It has been quite the pleasant evening.
The trans america trail has several different maps that are divided into sections along the way. It is with great pleasure I can now say that we have completed map 1 of the trip!
Tomorrow we are going to try to ride 90 miles or so. Have to get an early start for that to happen.
YEAH WOOOHA! Great Pics! Enjoying the updates!
Yes! I’m excited about the map. Judging by your current position, it looks like you’re in the middle of nowhere. I had to zoom out five times before I recognized anything…
I know the Boone Tavern Hotel well.
And don’t you just love how the roads were carved out the rock? i do.
